Mutus and Pianemo Islands, Indonesia Day 12
Wednesday 8th October 2025
Looking out the window at breakfast, we could see a tiny island with a tiny village. We boarded our Zodiacs and as we approached the constant sound of drums became clear as we motored into Mutus Island. The drums were part of a warm welcome. Most passengers joined in the welcome dance followed by Expedition Leader Nathan Russ presenting school supplies and sports equipment to the children.
The soccer balls were a particular favourite and suddenly children appeared from everywhere. The soccer balls were a popular choice which led to an impromptu soccer game, Heritage Adventurer vs the children of Mutus Island. Geoff and I explored the village before boarding the Zodiacs for lunch back on the ship. Whilst we were exploring Captain Jaceck entertained some of the Island’s children onboard the ship. They particularly loved the ice water dispenser and the ice creams.

For our afternoon, we headed to Pianemo Island. Upon landing we took the well-maintained track up to a panoramic lookout with fabulous views of the surrounding islands.

Today was Brian’s birthday and we celebrated. Our wait staff all gathered around our dinner table to sing him Happy Birthday. Later we discovered they had decorated his cabin with lots of ‘towel art’ – very creative.
