Sumbawa Island, Indonesia Day 5

Wednesday 1st October 2025

First up, we visited Pamulang Village and then Dalam Loka via the local buses. We witnessed a re-enactment of a wedding ceremony by the local children. The performers were dressed in beautiful costumes dancing to gentle rhythmic music  Then there was a dramatic change to the very popular Buffalo Racing. This involves the young men of the village moving into the flooded rice field and tying wooden sleds to their buffalo. A race consists of two buffalo and two riders. Water is flying and riders are yelling and the two buffalo are charging full speed through the water towards the finish line. As the riders near the finish line, they often fall off intentionally and the buffalo that seemed wildly out of control would come to a sudden halt.

After a break on board to grab lunch, we had dived back (literally) into our next activity of the day. Our first snorkelling site was only two nautical miles down the beach and provided easy access from the sandy shores and a chance for everyone to test out their snorkelling gear.

That evening, we enjoyed the Captain’s Welcome Cocktails. Captain Jaceck and his team welcomed us onto Heritage Adventurer.
