Thursday 4th December
We finally bid farewell to Algies Bay and drove north to Tutukaka via the scenic route. Although everywhere seems to be a scenic route in New Zealand. The coastline is spectacular, the roads are windy, but the traffic is minimal. We stopped along the way to replenish out food supplies with fresh avocados, strawberries and eggs from the various roadside stalls. We checked into the Sands self contained units on the waterfront about 4 bays south of Tutukaka in Whangaumu Bay. The drive up from Whangarei (pronounced Fon-gar-a) is interesting. A lot of the roadway is lined with stones fences built from basalt. We enjoyed a walk on the beach before a drive into Tutukaka Marina for a pizza over the marina. Spotted some stingrays whilst checking out the yachts in the marina.
