Kangaroo Island Day 3

The four of us set off for Stokes Bay this morning to explore the beach and some very old rocks. Along the way we stopped several times to take a closer look at the local flora. The island has a wide array of flowering plants and trees now that it is spring.

Onwards to Stokes Bay where we spotted some whales in the distance.

A shower of rain whilst on the beach saw us drive back to Emu Bay to hang up damp jackets and have a bite of lunch before driving down to the Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery. They are the only farm on the island growing, harvesting and distilling the oil for international distribution. It’s been in the family for 3 generations and appears to be a thriving business with the 3rd generation (school age kids) joining in with their entrepreneurial skills and innovative ideas. I bought some eucalyptus oil and a practical recipe book. On my return home it will be time for me to make some environmentally friendly cleaning products.
After checking out their wildlife, 2 wallabies and an emu we drove back to Kingscote and picked up BBQ supplies and some wine for our dinner tonight.
