We packed up from our great Christmas house this morning and drove onto Amarillo, still in Texas. We have now entered ‘rattlesnake’ country.
We traveled through some wide open spaces seeing our first oil wells, lots of wind farms and solar panels. We noticed that were a lot less trucks on the road today, although we did pass 3 trains loaded with double decker sea containers. We arrived into Amarillo and our first taste of the original Route 66. One sign that raised an eyebrow was spotted whilst leaving the town of Childress – “Hitchhikers may be escaped inmates” – I had noticed that the town did have a detention centre attached to the Sheriff’s County Office!!!
