Conzano Day 2
Sunday 14th June 2026
We set off down via Mezzavilla (our street) this morning in search of No 25 the former home of my grandmother’s family but along the way we got chatting to some of the locals. The first family were the Imariso’s. Coincidently this is the family I referred to in a previous post (4th June). Despite the language barrier (I can’t speak Italian) we managed to understand that they have relatives in Ingham in North Queensland. So my guess is they would be of the same family. We also met another neighbour, Anna who, we had originally set out to find, as she is our contact for the Immigration Museum. She has invited us to tea on Wednesday. Continuing on down the street the church bells began to toll – it was 11am. I attended mass in the church along with about 60 of the town’s folk. Interestingly you can can also bring dogs to church now. She was reasonably well behaved with only one outburst of barking during the service.
Following the service the locals chatted for quite sometime outside the church, we wandered off and checked out some more of the local art. Conzano undertook a major public art installation two years ago and there are in excess of 100 posters, paintings, sculptures and iron works throughout the village.
