Yes you can travel from Charters Towers in sunny Queensland to tropical and humid Bangkok, Thailand in one day.
Early start from home at 6:30am for a 9:30am flight to Brisbane. Smooth change over to the Brisbane International Airport, a spot of duty free shopping before boarding the 2:00pm flight with Thai Airways to Bangkok – an 8 1/2 hour flight.
The International Airport is quite a way from the City Centre – at least 30 mins in the hotel transfer. As it was 9:00pm the traffic was light so it was an easy drive. The striking feature of the drive was the gigantic flood lit billboards advertising a myriad of electronic devices, cars, banks etc. Some of these were as wide as our house block – 40 meters!!!
We are staying at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, the tallest building in Thailand. It is starting to show it’s age however we are quite happy with our suite with our almost 180 degree views of the Bangkok skyline from the 40th floor. Night time views are the best. The haze sets in during the day as was evident at breakfast this morning up on the 79th floor.
