Conzano Day 4
Tuesday 16th June 2026
Another busy day in the village of Conzano with an official population of 932.
We visited Piazza Accatino (my grandmother’s family name) to buy some cheese, meats and fruit from the two travelling vendors. Popped into the Municipality office (local council) and got directions to the cemetery. We spent the next 2 hours having a close look at all of the headstones, which in the case of Conzano are all located within locked mausoleums or, in 5 metre high wall vaults. Despite there being a mausoleum for the Family Angelino and the Family Accatino I had limited success in locating any direct relatives within. In another section I did find a great aunt and great uncle and their daughter (grandmother’s side), so I have been able to update my family tree just a little bit more.

We took a drive to the next hilltop village of Camagna. It has an official population of 469. It’s another pretty town full of VERY narrow streets, stone and brick buildings, some restored and others still waiting. Enjoyed a lunch before driving back down the hill and home for siesta. The temperatures reach a high of about 30C each day and the locals just disappear for the next few hours.
