Conzano Day 3

Monday 15th June 2026

Today was a 2 bus day plus a hire car.  We took a local bus (in fact 2) into Alessandria to collect a hire car so we can extend our sightseeing to the other hilltop villages surrounding Conzano. We crossed the Tanaro River before it flows into the Po, walked from the train station (also the bus stop) along Corso Roma, the main thoroughfare and collected a little Fiat 4 door manual hybrid. This is the first time for us to be driving anywhere on the Continent and it is an experience.  When I say we, I mean Geoff is driving and I am navigating.  It does take 2 to make sure we stay on the correct side of the road, dodge all of the pedestrians, on and off the crossings, navigate the roundabouts in the opposite direction, to our usual driving pattern, and then there are the narrow streets (imagine alleyways, where the side mirrors almost scrap the sides of buildings). All I can say is that I am so glad Geoff was driving, I don’t think I would have the nerve.

The famous hat maker of Alessandria, Borsalino. This leopard patterned baseball cap will set you back 180 euro or $300 AU

The fedoras are about $500 AU

Cute shoes

A Fiat, but not the one we hired.

We called into Vignale, a neighbouring village on the was back to Conzano – an interesting collection of tools
